Professor George Heimpel was awarded the Filippo Silvestri Memorial Award at the 2024 International Congress of Entomology held in Kyoto, Japan. The Filippo Silvestri Memorial award is conferred by the Italian National Academy of Entomology and given to “a scientist who has achieved outstanding results in the field of biological control of harmful insects with research that reflects Filippo Silvestri’s approach to science, characterized by a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of natural insect antagonists and the sustainable use of the ecosystem services they provide.” Dr. Heimpel was recognized for the award during the conference’s inaugural session and then gave the Filippo Silvestri Memorial Lecture on the benefits and risks of biological control.
